White Pony Express (WPE) has been named as a winner of Nextdoor’s 2023 Neighborhood Faves, the only annual awards where neighbors vote to celebrate their favorite local businesses. This year, Neighborhood Fave winners like White Pony Express will receive greater visibility and ranking on the Nextdoor app and a sticker to showcase their win in the real world.
“We’re so honored to receive this award,” Executive Director Eve Birge said. “At White Pony Express, our focus is serving the community, specifically our neighbors in need. Being a 2023 Neighborhood Fave reinforces the work that we’re doing and lets us know that the change we’re driving forward is being seen and heard.”
Operating seven days a week, 365 days per year, White Pony Express is a volunteer-powered nonprofit dedicated to ending hunger and protecting the planet. Through their Food Rescue Program, WPE recovers 12,000+ pounds of high-quality, fresh, surplus food each day from grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, farmers markets, and other retailers. The food is then carefully sorted and delivered in refrigerated vehicles on the same day to 90+ organizations that serve 120,000 of our most vulnerable community members.
Over the last ten years, WPE has rescued 25 million pounds of food, equating to 21 million meals, and prevented over 31,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere.
