Gilbert Ruiz: Dedicated Volunteer

Gilbert Ruiz, a man of determination and compassion, exemplifies the spirit of service through his inspiring story. With a career spanning 29 years in construction, Gilbert faced unforeseen challenges when he became disabled. “I had to swallow my pride and was forced to seek food from local pantries and churches.” Rather than letting this challenge define him, it opened him up to a new purpose and calling.

Five years ago, Gilbert's path intersected with WPE. It was during a food giveaway event at his church that Gilbert approached the volunteers and expressed a desire to contribute his time and skills to their cause. Little did he know that this encounter would mark the beginning of a profound new chapter in his life.

Since then, Gilbert has been an indispensable member of the WPE family, dedicating countless hours to serving those in need. From ironing clothes to shining shoes, Gilbert eagerly takes on any task that comes his way, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. His favorite activity as a volunteer is dressing up as Santa and giving away toys over the holidays. His eyes light up when he sees the smiles on children's faces, and his cheer and laughter are contagious!

When asked about his motivation to volunteer, Gilbert humbly stated, "God has a plan for me to help the elderly and those in need." This belief propels him to go above and beyond in his service to others.
