DONATE TO OUR
FOOD RESCUE PROGRAM
White Pony Express welcomes donations of fresh, perishable items and shelf-stable foods.
Our Food Rescue Program addresses a problem that every food market faces: what to do with surplus fresh food. WPE picks up high-quality unsold food and delivers it to over eighty organizations seven days a week. These organizations serve low-income families, isolated seniors, our unhoused neighbors, individuals with special needs, foster youth, new immigrant families, and other marginalized populations.

The Good Samaritan Act
The Federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act established in 1996, protects businesses that donate food in good faith from being held liable should someone become sick from the food. The only exception to the law is in the case of gross negligence or intentional misconduct. California AB-129 states, “except for injury resulting from gross negligence or intentional misconduct in the preparation or handling of donated food, no person, gleaner, or food facility that donates food that is fit for human consumption at the time it was donated to a nonprofit charitable organization or food bank shall be liable for any damage or injury resulting from the consumption of the donated food."

Tax Benefits for Donating Food
Food donors are advised to consult with their tax adviser for information on tax deductions. For information on tax credit in California, please see the Charter 503, Statutes of 2011 (Fuentes, AB 152), regarding donations to food banks, voluntary contributions, and income tax credits.
