Do We Need?

Food Rescue "Runners"

We need drivers for two programs: Food Rescue and Food Rescue Hero Initiative. Food Rescue drivers work out of our Pleasant Hill headquarters, picking up large quantities of food from markets and grocers and bringing it back to be sorted, then delivering it to our recipient partner organizations.
Food Rescue Hero Initiative drivers work "on-demand" through WPE's Food Rescue app – think Uber for food rescue – picking up small food donations and delivering them directly to a matched recipient. Adopt a scheduled run or join us as an "on-demand" driver today. Click here to learn more!

Food Rescue Distribution Center Helpers

Love food and saving the environment? Join our food culling and sorting team! Volunteers can sign up for shifts in the morning and afternoon, 7 days a week. We rely on volunteers to be on-site at our distribution center in Pleasant Hill when the food arrives to ensure that what is delivered to our partner agencies is the food we would serve to our families… only the best!  

Food Rescue Recipient Location Helpers

If you live too far away to volunteer on-site at our Pleasant Hill location, there are fun and rewarding opportunities to meet our Food Rescue runners at recipient organizations to help unload the bounty and distribute it to those in need. Currently, we have opportunities in East and West Contra Costa County to help our School Pantry Program teams distribute groceries. 

Clothing & Care Distribution Workshop Helpers

There are opportunities every week to prepare new and like-new items for distribution to our recipients. Does sorting, sizing, tagging, arranging, and packing make you happy? How about mending, ironing, and laundry? Preparing outfits for our most vulnerable community members requires many important steps in order to ensure we give only our best.

Marketing, Communications, and Outreach

We are always looking for new friends to join our marketing efforts. If you have a knack for outreach, social media, design, public speaking, networking, or anything connected to spreading the word – let us know! We’d love to introduce you to our Online Ambassador Program or connect you to team members responsible for our communications and publicity efforts.
