Summer Intern Spotlight: Aasim Yahya

Hey everyone! My name is Aasim Yahya and I’m excited to join the White Pony Express family for the summer as a community engagement and development intern. I'll be doing a variety of tasks and I'm eager to learn and contribute to this community supported and community supporting organization.

As a Contra Costa native, being apart of WPE is a special opportunity. An opportunity for me to help alleviate poverty and hunger right in my backyard.

I’m currently a rising second-year student at the University of California, Berkeley studying Political Science and Public Policy, but I’m far more proud to be able to say that I’m from Concord.

In many ways, Concord raised me. It was the guidance of community members and teachers that helped foster in me a spirit for public service, politics, and advocacy.

That was the very spirit which carried me to White Pony Express this summer. When it feels like public officials are struggling to better the lives of those who elected them, places like White Pony Express give us a glimmer of hope. No politics, just progress.

WPE has made significant and measurable progress in alleviating poverty and hunger in Contra Costa by embracing their mantra “all of us taking care of all of us”.

Growing up, I was fortunate that I didn’t have to think about where my next meal was coming from. That privilege is incredibly valuable. Now, I have the opportunity to use my own privilege to uplift others.

FUN FACT: Aasim ran for CA State Assembly in 2018. Check out his website here.
