Volunteer Opportunities with WPE and our Community of Support

Updated: Mar 14, 2019

Please see list below for current volunteer opportunities with WPE. And spread the word!

Picking fruit with the Urban Farmers

WPE’s very first donor organization, The Urban Farmers needs help reaping in a beautiful harvest this Spring so that we have plenty of tasty fruits to serve to our WPE recipients. Picking from local trees and seeing another angle of the work you do might be a nice change of pace once in a while.

Support Food Distribution Efforts with our partner Organizations Recipient when needed! Please contact us for specific opportunities, such as with Pittsburg United Methodist Church, Heritage Senior Apartments in Concord, and more.

The Free General Store currently needs a wide variety of support, shopping, stocking, organizing, beautifying clothing and creating ensembles. Some urgent needs include hosting workshops and events and managing the loading dock are available opportunities right now. If you wish to support the Free General Store as a volunteer, please reach Mandy Nakaya.

Interns Wanted! We are launching a new robust internship program at WPE and have some immediate positions available, including positions in fundraising, grants, volunteer management, Food Rescue, anti-Food Waste Activism and social media communications. Please contact us below if you are interested in learning more.

More Family Volunteering and Group Opportunities are becoming available starting this spring—we’ve been called upon to step up our game with some special new projects. Let’s support some new special initiatives from our recipient organizations and add beauty and a bit of extra service to the food and goods we deliver. Families and Groups welcome.

Drivers Wanted! A very important opportunity—we need on-call and back up volunteer drivers to keep our operations moving smoothly, while continuing our legacy of utilizing volunteers to make deliveries to recipients whenever possible. Please reach out by emailing volunteer@whiteponyexpress.org with any interest

WPE Food Rescue Distribution as always needs regulars! Join us weekend or weekday mornings from 8:30a until 10:30a to sort our wild variety of foods into bountiful baskets for our many recipient organizations serving populations in need. Please reach Mandy Nakaya if you wish to join the Food Rescue distribution team.

Hold a Drive to Help Inside and Outside the County. Help with some special initiatives that we need the community to rally around to keep the Butte County fire survivors going and help those closer to home as well.

We're looking for volunteers to run a non-perishable food drive or hold a neighborhood or family drive for items to build care kits for the homeless, recently housed or Butte County fire survivors. Whether you are an individual that wants to help personally, a community or corporate group, or a group of family or friends, please reach Danie Belfield to find out more about holding your own food or product or fundraising drive!
