Our Story

White Pony Express (WPE) was founded by Dr. Carol Weyland Conner in September 2013. Our goal is to uplift lives. We believe we’re all part of one human family and when one of us moves forward, everyone does. Through a network of 90 partners, we work to help bring people living on the margins into the mainstream.

Our Model

Our volunteer-powered “circle of giving” is a model whereby surplus food and goods are picked up and delivered to neighbors in need, with love and in the spirit of serving selflessly. Our vision is to create a template for giving that can be replicated in other communities. We operate two primary service programs: Food Rescue and the White Pony General Store.

Clothing & Care Program

WPE's Clothing & Care Program distributes new and like-new clothing, shoes, emergency supplies, toys, children’s books, and games to our Contra Costa neighbors in need.

Food Rescue

Our Food Rescue Program started as a grassroots effort by local residents. Our neighborhood project has now developed into one of the largest Food Rescue and delivery programs in Northern California.

Food Rescue Hero Initiative

This new program uses the White Pony Express  App so food donors can signal when they have excess food. An available “food runner” volunteer then picks up and delivers the food directly to a matching food recipient organization.
